Intro

Global Shapers is a youth organization under the World Economic Forum. Every year members across 156 countries lead projects to address socioeconomic issues and improve lives of local communities.

The Project

In early 2020, Global Shapers hub in Bangkok started working on Art Against Extinction, a fundraising campaign to support wildlife conservation efforts in Thailand. To achieve this, 50 famous local artists have been invited to participate in the campaign and capture their creative interpretation of the 6th mass extinction through paintings, sculptures, and graphic design artwork. A one-month exhibition and a series of Art Against Extinction interactive events will lead to an art auction where all proceeds will be donated to wildlife conservation.

My Role

I joined Global Shapers as a volunteer back in October 2019. Soon after I jumped on the Art Against Extinction project which was still at a concept stage. It was a perfect fit for me because it combined two things I loved: art and nature. Having experience in marketing and sponsorship management I joined a couple of other hub members in the quest to raise money for the campaign and establish partnerships with other NGOs that are working on a similar cause.

Results

The event was planned for the period April to May, however, due to covid-19 it has been postponed until end of 2020.

If you are interested in hearing more about the project, know someone who would like to support or just want to get some hands-on experience with international NGOs, please drop me a note at liepa.olsauskaite@gmail.com
